Can I Afford It

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

What we collect

Right now, Can I Afford It doesn't have accounts or a server-side database. The income, credit score, existing debt, and items you enter are stored only in your own browser (using its local storage), on your own device. We don't receive, see, or store that information ourselves, and it isn't sent anywhere when you use the calculators.

Local storage

Local storage works like a cookie you can't see: it lets the site remember your income and saved items between visits, in that specific browser, on that specific device. Clearing your browser's site data, or using a different browser or device, will clear or not show that information. This is separate from the analytics cookies described below - it never leaves your device.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand overall traffic and which pages are useful - things like which pages get visited and roughly how, not the income or item numbers you enter (those still never leave your device; see above). Google Analytics sets its own cookies and may combine what it collects here with other data Google has about you. You can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or your browser's tracking-protection settings.

Advertising

We show ads on this site through Google AdSense to help support it. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites, and may use that to show you more relevant ads elsewhere too - the same way this works on most sites you visit. You can see and adjust what Google uses for ad personalization at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of personalized ads more broadly at aboutads.info.

Credit card offers

We plan to show credit card recommendations based on the credit score and income you enter, and may earn a commission if you're approved through one we link to. That matching would happen the same way the calculators already work - using what you've entered on your own device, not anything we've collected about you. Any such offers will always be clearly marked as sponsored or commission-earning where they appear. This isn't live yet; we'll update this section with specifics once it is.

Accounts, later

We plan to add optional sign-in in the future so you can sync your list across devices. When that launches, this policy will be updated to explain exactly what account data we'd store and how - nothing changes about how we handle your data until then.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If how we handle data changes, we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above.
