By Alex Diaz · How we calculate this

Insuring and maintaining a supercar routinely costs several times more than a mainstream sports car, since parts are often dealer-exclusive and routine service can require specialized technicians. This calculator works out a monthly payment from the price, down payment, rate, and term you enter, then weighs it against your income to gauge how risky the purchase would be.
These key factors affect supercar affordability
Income and expenses
A supercar payment doesn't replace anything else in your budget, it just adds to it. We weigh it against your income together with any other debt you've logged, because a big monthly payment that looks fine on paper by itself can still leave you exposed once it's stacked on top of a mortgage and a car loan or two you didn't mention.
Credit score
Even a small difference in rate turns into a large dollar swing here, simply because the loan amount is so much bigger than a typical car loan. Lenders also tend to gatekeep exotic and specialty financing more tightly than mainstream car loans, often wanting to see excellent credit and an established track record before they'll finance the purchase at all, not just before they'll offer a good rate once they do.
Insurance and maintenance
Specialized parts, dealer-only service, and technicians trained on one brand all push the ongoing cost well past what a mainstream sports car runs. Many exotic owners also carry an agreed-value insurance policy rather than a standard one, since a regular actual-cash-value policy tends to undervalue a car like this as it ages. Get real numbers for the specific model before you commit. What a Ferrari costs to insure and service can look nothing like what a Porsche does, even at a similar price.
Depreciation and rarity
Rarity isn't the same thing as value retention. A handful of limited-production models hold their price unusually well, or even appreciate, and buyers chasing one of those sometimes pay a market adjustment over sticker just to get an allocation from the dealer. Most supercars, though, depreciate like any other car, just from a much higher number. Look up the specific model's resale history rather than assuming exclusivity alone will protect what you paid.
Down payment and loan term
A larger down payment does more work here than on an ordinary car loan, since it directly reduces the total interest owed on financing this size. Stretch the term out and the monthly number gets friendlier, but you'll be paying interest on a depreciating asset for that much longer.
How to use your results
Try adjusting the inputs to see what actually moves your risk score:
- Down payment - a bigger down payment meaningfully lowers total interest on a loan this size.
- Existing debt - add what you're already carrying for a more realistic picture.
- Insurance and maintenance - get a real quote for the specific model, since it varies enormously.
Ways to increase how much supercar you can afford
- Pay down existing debt before taking on financing for a vehicle like this.
- Save for a larger down payment to reduce total interest paid over the loan.
- Get real insurance and maintenance quotes for the specific model before committing to a price range.
- Consider a slightly older model year to reduce the purchase price without changing the experience much.
